On August 11, No. 2 medical station in the public zone of the Olympic Green was visited by a special guest --- Mr. Mike, who used to be the officer in charge of medical services for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and Athens 2004 Olympic Games and is now the chief medical officer of the London 2012 Olympics. The major purpose of his visit to the Olympic Green was to investigate the medical services provided at the 29th Olympics and learn experience from his Chinese counterparts to ensure reliable medical support for the London Olympics.

Mr. Li Yongzhong, Medical Affairs Manager of the public zone and Deputy Director of the medical affairs division of Xuanwu Hospital, expounded to Mr. Mike the composition of the medical team, working procedures, and emergency response plan. Director Liu Dachuan from Xunawu Hospital, the head of the medical station, explained how medicines were stored and replenished. Mr. Mike said what annoyed him most during the Sydney and Athens Games was how to deliver medicines to medical stations through the most stringent security checks. He also pointed out that they usually stored just a small amount of medicine at medical stations and replenish the stock if needed. Thus the replenishment was really time-consuming.

Mr. Mike highly praised the contribution that the Chinese government and medical staff had made to the medical support for the Olympics when seeing all medical necessities, such as abundant medicine stock, electrocardiograph, defibrillator, respirator and some other first-aid equipment, were provided at the station. He thought some measures taken by the Chinese medical staff can provide some insight into how they can do the job well at the London Games, for example, it was a brilliant idea, according to him, to keep special medicines in refrigerators and equip the medical station with air conditioners to maintain a constant temperature.
