Recently, the 2008 Course of the Childhood Asthma and its Prevention and the International Forum was held in Beijing by the Health Bureau of Beijing Municipality, Capital Institute of Pediatrics. The research achievements on “The Initial Diagnose and Treatment of Childhood Asthma” by the Capital Institute of Pediatrics have already been a generalization project for people in rural area since 1990. So far, this project has been held for 18 years, with the addition of international forum in these two years. It has attracted the attention of most pediatric doctors.

Over 350 doctors from hospitals of 25 provinces attended this course. Besides, it also invited world-renowned experts to make speeches, for example, Dr. Liang Yicen from New Zealand, Dr. Narnail Mohamed from Malaysia, Dr. Lv Keheng fromTaiwan, Dr. Vandenplas from Belgium, Dr. Wu Guoqiang from Hong Kong, and Dr. Harvey L.leo from America etc. On the forum, experts’ topics involved the relations between asthma and environment, the relations between respiratory tract infections and asthma, the diagnose and treatment of childhood asthma and food allergy, the prevention of allergic diseases, the diagnose and treatment of chronic cough and severe asthma, and the management model of asthma in foreign countries. Meanwhile, the forum invited some Chinese experts to make speeches on the diagnose and treatment of allergic diseases, reconstruction of upper and lower respiratory passage, aerosol inhalation treatment, asthma treatment strategies, initial diagnose and treatment of allergic coryza, clinic experience on the application of aerosol inhalation treatment and desensitization therapy, hyperventilation syndrome, and the diagnose and treatment of anaphylactic shock etc.

Doctors who came to the course with their questions felt that they learned a lot. The success of the course will significantly improve the treatment of childhood asthma in China and further promote the cooperation on childhood asthma all over the world. Moreover, the coordinate group of childhood asthma held a meeting to discuss the activities on World Asthma Day on 6th, May, 2008 and make plans for the prevention and treatment of asthma.
