The inaugural meeting of the Organizing Committee of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) International Forum was held at Beijing Conference Center on 4 December, 2009. More than 100 people attended the meeting, including Li Daning, Deputy Director General of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wang Xiaopin, Deputy Director General of Department of International Cooperation, Yu Luming, Deputy Director General of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, Zhao Jing, Director General of Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, experts from government institutions and trade organizations of TCM at home and abroad and representatives from other TCM organizations in Beijing.

The Organizing Committee of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine International Forum Establishes in Beijing

The establishment of Beijing TCM International Forum is one of the key tasks mentioned in the Opinions on Promotion of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine issued by the Beijing Municipal Government. The forum aims to establish an authoritative platform for regular academic exchanges and cooperation among government institutions, associations of TCM and academic bodies and to build a brand of Beijing TCM for foreign exchange by utilizing the rich TCM resources in Beijing and the favorable location for foreign exchange. The establishment of Beijing TCM International Forum can not only further promote the dissemination and exchange of TCM, but also meet the requirements for the establishment of Green Beijing, People’s Beijing.

The Organizing Committee of Beijing TCM International Forum has elected one president, twelve vice presidents and thirty commissioners. The members come from various TCM realms such as medical services, education, scientific research, industry and management. The elected vice presidents and commissioners also include experts and leaders of TCM trade organizations from different regions and countries. The establishment of the Organizing Committee marks a new stage of Beijing’s TCM foreign exchange and technical cooperation that features normative management, orderly organization, professional guidance, extensive cooperation, long operation and good brand building. The forum will launch academic exchanges focusing on different themes about the TCM industry on a regular basis, serving as a service platform for TCM international cooperation since next year.

Zhao Jing, Director General of Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was elected to be president. “The Organizing Committee members shall provide assistance in the organizing efforts of the forum by taking advantage of their academic prestige and influence so as to help Beijing TCM International Forum grow to be an authoritative platform for regular academic exchanges and cooperation among government institutions, associations of TCM and academic bodies and to be a brand of Beijing TCM for foreign exchange,” she said in her speech. Li Daning, Deputy Director General of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, extended his congratulations at the meeting. In his speech, he appreciated the performance of Beijing TCM for foreign exchange and stated that the relevant departments of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine would give full support for the construction and development of the forum. Yu Luming, Deputy Director General of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, proposed the following three requirements for the future construction of the forum: 1) to build a brand of Beijing TCM for foreign exchange across Beijing, China and the world based on a good starting point and high criteria in conjunction with the station and advantages of Beijing; 2) to develop extensive communication, relationship and scope so as to lay a solid foundation for the future construction and development of the forum; 3) to maintain the guidelines of equal exchanges, learning from each other, going global and inviting home. Declaration of Beijing TCM International Forum was released and Charter of the Organizing Committee of Beijing TCM International Forum, Working Plan of Beijing TCM International Forum 2010 and Logo Design Scheme of Beijing TCM International Forum were passed at the meeting.

All members of the Organizing Committee and foreign representatives visited Beijing Yushengtang Chinese Medicine Museum to closely experience the long history and profound culture of traditional Chinese medicine during the meeting.
