Sep. 10, 2009 is the seventh World Suicide Prevention Day, of which the theme of this year is ^Social and Cultural Factors, and Suicide Prevention ̄. During the campaign for the World Suicide Prevention Day, 12 psychological experts at Suicide Research and Prevention Center of Hui Long Guan Hospital, led by Yang Fude, director of the hospital, visited prisons in Beijing on Sep. 8, and promoted psychological health education, conducted psychological health examination, and offered psychological health consultation services to the prisoners.
According to authority statistics, prisoners tend to have serious psychological problems. Depression, irresistible impulse, hostality, as well as anti-society emotions commonly pervade the group. Prisoners usually bear immense mental pressure for lack of freedom. As a result, they opt to appear nervous, anxious, afraid, and irritable. These psychological problems must be cured timely;
otherwise, they will not only impede the reformation of the troubled prisoners, but also affect the emotions and conducts of other prisoners, and would further impact the security supervision and reformation work of these prisons. Hence, psychological experts at Suicide Research and Prevention Center of our hospital visited these prisons and helped the prisoners to shape healthy mentality so that they can achieve satisfactory reformation.
Since 2004, psychological experts of Hui Long Guan Hospital have been providing psychological crisis interference services for prisoners in Beijing, and even made available a free hotline (8008101117) for the convenience and comfort of prisoners seeking for psychological consultation, which is well received by both prisoners and prison guards.
Prior to and after the World Suicide Prevention Day, psychological experts at Suicide Research and Prevention Center of Hui Long Guan Hospital also visited Beijing Agricultural College and Beijing Mining College to provide psychological consultation for the college students.
