On April 7, during the global initiation ceremony for World Health Day, Margaret Chan, the Director General of WHO, and Huang Jiefu, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Health jointly conducted a nameplate-unveiling ceremony for WHO Cooperation Center of Comprehensive Management for AIDS Treatment and Care based at Beijing Ditan Hospital. The Cooperation Center is the sole in the AIDS-related field of China under official approval of the World Health Organization.
In the afternoon, a seminar was held at the WHO Cooperation Center of Comprehensive Management for AIDS Treatment and Care. At the seminar, Mao Yu, the Director of the Hospital, announced the name list of the Advisory Committee and the Technological Committee of the Cooperation Center. He further stated that Ditan Hospital will do its best to fully cooperate with the Center as it fulfills the responsibilities of AIDS related treatment, care and support at national, regional and global levels. In addition, Professor Massimo, the Chief of the WHO West Pacific Center for AIDS and Venereal Diseases, and Professor Xu Keyi, the Director of the Cooperation Center working in Beijing Ditan Hospital, gave an academic lecture respectively.
The WHO Cooperation Center of Comprehensive Management for AIDS Treatment and Care was founded on January 30, 2009 and operates by virtue of the abundant medical resources of Ditan Hospital. As a part of the WHO network of international medical cooperation, the Cooperation Center is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation in the AIDS related field among countries and regions of the world, and offering support to the research of relevant subjects so as to facilitate the progress of the global undertaking of AIDS prevention and treatment. The establishment of the Center not only has presented a platform for improving managerial and technological level of our country in the field of AIDS prevention and treatment, but also plays an active role in promoting an all-around development of the cause and its integration with the global practice.
