¢ó. Key Notes
¡¡¡¡
The number of people entering and leaving Beijing will soar as the Olympic Games is approaching and students have started enjoying their summer holiday. However, summer is also a season where intestinal infectious diseases are prevailing, it is essential for public health authorities at all levels to heighten their vigilance, implement policies relating to the prevention and control of intestinal tract infectious diseases, enhance their laboratory detection of diseases and reports on infectious diseases, monitor closely the epidemic situation, and prevent the outbreak of food poisoning and intestinal tract infectious diseases.

Every summer and autumn sees not only a great influx of tourists into this city but also a dramatic increase in dog attacks. According to statistics, the total number of people hurt by animals in the first half of 2008 is 114,385, up 24.2% over last year. In August, a large number of foreign visitors will flock into Beijing to watch the Olympic Games; therefore, disease surveillance centers at all levels must enhance their reports on infectious diseases and closely monitor the epidemic situation and clinics providing treatment to patients injured by animals. Once the outbreak of infectious disease is detected, those surveillance institutions must report it to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention immediately and provide timely medical treatment for those who are infected or exposed to the epidemic in accordance with the Beijing Rabies Control Specification. All the aforementioned requirements are aimed at ensuring the safety and success of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
